Welcome to the April 8, 2005 issue of Citation Software News. In this issue we're focusing on the following topics:
  • New developer's PDF-viewing/editing toolkit supports PDF forms (AcroForms) and has an improved rendering engine

  • Developers can validate addresses on the fly and in batch mode with "AddressObject" software

  • Sign up for our Lease-to-Own Program and get started with variable-data printing for $200 per month or less

  • Take our fun "Can You Mail It?" quiz

New developer's PDF-viewing/editing toolkit supports PDF forms (AcroForms) and has a new rendering engine

Version 3.0 of the Jaws PDF Editor Software Development Kit (SDK) is now available. Developed by Global Graphics Software and offered for licensing by Citation Software, the Jaws PDF Editor SDK allows programmers to incorporate PDF-viewing capabilities and PDF-editing capabilities into their applications. This new version of the SDK provides quite a few new features; mainly support for AcroForms (also known as PDF forms), an improved rendering engine, and enhanced text-searching support.
Support for AcroForms. Now programmers can display and print PDF files that contain the following PDF form elements: text boxes, buttons, check boxes, combo boxes, and radio buttons. This new version of the SDK also supports the entry of data into PDF forms and the saving of that data. The saving of data is supported either within the form itself, or as a separate FDF file.

Improved rendering engine. The Jaws PDF RIP rendering engine has been added to the product, replacing the GDI+ renderer as the default engine. The Jaws PDF RIP rendering engine is a highly advanced renderer that offers speed and advanced functionality. Note that the programmer still has the option of using the GDI+ rendering engine, if desired.

Enhanced text-searching support. There are more search options, and searching is faster. In addition, the SDK now allows an external search engine to search the PDF document, by providing an externally searchable text buffer.
Other new features in Version 3.0 of the Jaws PDF Editor SDK include enhanced support for transparency, more flexibility when working with password-protected PDF documents, and enhanced debugging support for the distillation process (the process of converting a PostScript file to PDF format).

Developers can validate addresses on the fly and in batch mode with the "AddressObject" software

AddressObject is a developer's toolkit that can be integrated into custom applications. It lets you verify data at point of entry or in batch mode to protect against fraud, waste and excess shipping and mailing costs by cleaning up the inaccurate, incomplete and undeliverable addresses in your database or by preventing bad addresses from being added to your database in the first place. AddressObject is powered by a CASS Certified address-verification engine and meets the strictest U.S. Postal Service specifications for address accuracy and ZIP+4 codes.

You can also use AddressObject to print CASS form 3553.

If you've wanted to purchase variable-data-printing software but you've hesitated because of the cost, take advantage of our Lease-to-Own Program to get access to best-in-class variable-data-printing solutions (also known as "personalized-printing solutions" or "one-to-one-communication solutions") for less than $200 USD per month! You can get the DL-100 software or PrintShop Mail software for less than $200 USD per month, and you can get the DL-1000 software for around $800 USD per month. DL-100 allows the user to work from within Adobe Acrobat to design and produce variable-data documents. DL-1000 is a powerful, server-based variable-data-composition engine that a programmer can integrate into a production workflow. PrintShop Mail provides its own Graphical User Interface (GUI) for designing and producing variable-data documents.
