Budget-wise software systems for cross-media direct marketing with Personalized URLs

EasyPurl is a Web-based system that allows you to utilize Personalized URLs with variable-data-printing (VDP) software and also allows you to monitor activity once you've launched a campaign. DesignMerge Pro and PrintShop Mail are variable-data-printing solutions that allow you to design and print unique, personalized direct-mail documents (for example, postcards).

Here is a real-life example of such a campaign.
Action Printing, a full-service printing-and-mailing firm, was called in to help its client, a property-tax consulting firm, build its customer base. While the client excelled at its core business of helping commercial property owners lower their property taxes, it lacked the skills to market its business; and it also wanted to expand into the residential real-estate market.

Action Printing began by creating a customized mailing list targeting property owners in the right demographic segment. Then Action Printing designed a printed mailing containing Personalized URLs (PURLs) and several key questions, such as:
"Do you own more than one residential property?"

"Do you own commercial property?"
While the 1.3% response rate to the PURL mailing was only slightly higher than average, the quality of the responses was extremely high: the tax consulting firm was able to close deals with 100% of the respondents, for a total of $35,000 worth of new business in just three days.

The tax consulting firm had previously sent out mailings on its own but had never gotten any response at all. With PURLs included in its mailings, it suddenly had tens of thousands of dollars of new business in less than a week, demonstrating the powerful impact of personalization.

Adobe Systems has released an update to Acrobat 8 Professional and Acrobat 8 Standard which provides support for Microsoft Windows Vista and Office 2007. To get the update, go to the following page on the Adobe Web site:

Fun stuff!

June 28, 2007 — The version of this newsletter that was distributed via e-mail on June 26, 2007 has a "Fun stuff!" section that contains information about outrageous lawsuits. A newsletter recipient has informed us that those alleged lawsuits never actually happened. We've done some checking and it appears that he is correct — those lawsuits probably never happened.

We admit that we found the information about those alleged lawsuits on the Internet! (They were apparently posted on a Web site by somebody that thought people would enjoy reading about bizarre and outrageous lawsuits.) We promise to be more careful in the future about verifying the information that we publish.
