Affordable programmer’s toolkits for cleaning up, verifying, standardizing, and enhancing name, address & phone lists and e-mail lists
|
Citation Software offers several affordable programmer’s
toolkits that make it easy to clean up, verify,
standardize, and enhance name-and-address lists and e-mail lists.
You can identify duplicate records, standardize addresses,
verify addresses, do presorting, and more. You can also
improve the accuracy of telephone-number data.
Use these toolkits to ensure the integrity of your database,
save money on postage, and increase response rates. You
can also use the toolkits to add rapid lookup, verification,
and correction routines to your custom Windows, Linux and
Solaris applications; this allows you to have clean,
accurate contact data at point of entry.
Here are the toolkits that are available:
- Address Object. This allows a programmer to standardize
the format of a U.S. Postal Service address;
resolve data inconsistencies; add ZIP+4, carrier route and
delivery point codes to addresses; print the U.S. Postal Service
Form 3553; and more.
- Canadian Address Object. This is an add-on for Address Object
that allows a programmer to verify, correct, standardize,
and enhance Canadian postal-service addresses. It’s also
possible to get postal code, municipality, province, and
time zone for an address.
- RBDI. This is an add-on for Address Object that allows a
programmer to determine whether an address is a residential
address or a business address. You can exploit this capability
to identify shipping patterns, to allow customers to
choose shipping methods & costs when placing an order for
a product on your Web site, and to reduce residential-delivery
surcharges.
- GeoCoder Object. This allows a programmer to get
latitude/longitude based on a ZIP+4 code; it’s also
possible to get census tract & block number, county name,
and FIPS code. (What’s a FIPS code?
Go to www.CitationSoftware.com/faqFIPScodes.htm
to find out.)
- Presort Object. This allows a programmer to presort any
list that has been processed with a current CASS Certified engine
for ZIP+4 codes. (NOTE: Address Object contains a CASS Certified
engine.)
- Phone Object. This enables a programmer to update U.S.
and Canadian area codes that have "split," correct bad
& missing area codes, and standardize telephone-number
formats for consistency.
- Name Object. This allows a programmer to parse full
names into five components, append a gender code based on
first name, and catch vulgar words.
- Email Object. This allows a programmer to verify, correct,
and standardize e-mail addresses. It can check for general syntax
errors, parse e-mail addresses into various components,
check for domain-name changes, check for and correct top-level
domain names (TLDs), validate domain names against a
database of known good & bad addresses, verify whether a
domain name exists through the MaileXchange (MX) Lookup
for real-time feedback, and more.
The toolkits work with a variety of programming languages:
Cold Fusion, Java, FoxPro, MS Access, MS SQL, Perl,
PHP, Visual Studio 6 and .net, ASP, C++, and C#.
Sample code is available.

DirectSmile lets you utilize image personalization from within the PrintShop Mail variable-data-printing software!
The developers of the PrintShop Mail software and the
developers of the DirectSmile software have teamed up
to allow PrintShop Mail users to benefit from the
advantages brought forth by image personalization. The
result is a plug-in that allows connectivity between
PrintShop Mail and DirectSmile.
What is "image personalization"? Image personalization is
the ability to add conditional text to background
images, dynamically. For example: you can write people’s
names in the sand, spell people’s names with cookies or
berries, and emboss people’s names on poker chips!
This allows for the design and production of outstanding
direct-mail pieces that capture the attention of
customers through a combination of individualization and emotion.

Free trial versions of the software are available. For
more information, call us at 508-436-2543.

Fun stuff!

At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly
compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated:
"If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry
has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000
miles to the gallon."
In response to Mr. Gates’s comments, General Motors issued
a press release stating that if GM had developed technology
like Microsoft, we would all be
driving cars with the following characteristics:
- For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day.
- Every time they repainted the lines in the road,
you would have to buy a new car.
Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no
reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road,
close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it,
and reopen the windows before you could continue.
You would simply accept this.
- Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left
turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to
restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.
- Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun,
was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive — but
would run on only five percent of the roads.
- The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights
would all be replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed An
Illegal Operation" warning light.
- The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?" before
deploying.
- Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would
lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted
the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the
radio antenna.
- Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have
to learn how to drive all over again because none of the
controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.
