Understanding the USPS Intelligent Mail bar code
The Intelligent Mail bar code is a new U.S. Postal Service
bar code that allows for sorting and
tracking of letters and flats. It combines the data of
the POSTNET and
PLANET bar codes, as
well as other data, into a single bar code for
routing and tracking mail.
Here is an Intelligent Mail bar code:

Along with data
related to the delivery address, the Intelligent Mail
bar code contains data that identifies
the mailer (the company sending the mail), and
it also can (optionally) contain data that
uniquely identifies the particular letter or flat.
Currently, the Postal Service allows mailers to use
the Intelligent Mail bar code in lieu of
the POSTNET bar code in order to receive postage discounts.
Beginning in May 2009, mailers that want postage discounts
on letters and flats will be
REQUIRED to use the Intelligent Mail bar code.
If the mailer includes a unique mailpiece
identifier in the Intelligent Mail bar code,
it will be possible to use the Postal Service's
computer system to track each particular piece of mail.
Citation Software offers several products that
support the Intelligent Mail bar code:

Keep your PrintShop Mail dongle locked up!
|
|
|
PrintShop Mail dongles (hardware keys) were stolen from
two of our customers recently. Be sure
to keep your PrintShop Mail dongle locked up in a safe
place when your office is closed. The
dongle is tiny, but in many cases it's worth more
than the computer it's attached to!

Formatting addresses in PrintShop Mail
|
PrintShop Mail provides several features that allow for
precise formatting of addresses.
To start with, you can control both the
horizontal alignment and the vertical alignment.
And, the "Leading" feature gives you
control over spacing between lines.
Plus, the "Remove empty lines" feature
is useful when some records in your name-and-address list
have suite numbers or apartment numbers and others do not.
Also — you can go beyond the basics by
writing a PrintShop Mail Expression.
Here is an example:
|
|
|
IF(LEN([Middlename]) > 0, [Firstname] & " " & [Middlename] & " " & [Lastname], [Firstname] & "
" & [Lastname])
|
This expression formats the first line of an address block.
It instructs PrintShop Mail to
include the middle name or initial
(and the required spaces) if the record has a middle name or
initial, and it tells PrintShop Mail to simply print
the first name and last name separated by
a space if the record doesn't have a middle name or initial.

Fun stuff!
Exercise can be fun! Those of us that sit in
front of a computer all day can sure use more
exercise. This regimen lets you build arm and
shoulder muscles right in your office.
|
Begin by standing with a five-pound potato sack in
each hand. Extend your arms straight out to
your sides and hold them there as long as you can.
After a few weeks, move up to ten-pound potato sacks,
and then fifty-pound potato sacks, and
finally get to where you can lift a
one-hundred-pound potato sack in each hand and hold your
arms straight for more than a minute.
Next, start putting a few potatoes in the sacks.
