Quite Hot Imposing
|
|
Quite Hot Imposing is a stand-alone application (not a plug-in)
that allows you to integrate automated page-imposition operations
into a document-production workflow by using hot folders or by using a
command-line interface. It accepts PDF files as input and creates PDF files as output.
This product was given the name "Quite Hot Imposing"
because 1) it is built
on the foundation of the time-tested
Quite Imposing Plus
product, and 2) it supports hot folders as an
automation/integration mechanism.
Quite Hot Imposing was designed to be very easy to use, and you don't have to
be a programmer to use it!
(If you are a programmer, you can do some advanced things by using
Quite Hot Imposing's command-line interface.)

|
Quite Hot Imposing was designed to be intuitive and simple to use.
The "Imposition by Example" method makes it easy to repeat a
sequence of actions.
Current users of Quite Imposing Plus can use their
Quite Imposing Plus setups in Quite Hot Imposing.

Hot folders
Setting up a hot folder is easy. Just choose your
In, Out, Done, and Error folders.
Command-line interface
If you are a programmer, you might want to bypass
the Quite Hot Imposing hot-folder monitor and use
the command-line interface. Here is a simple example:

The "source" and "target" parameters
are probably self explanatory. The "control"
parameter is an XML file or
a PDF file that contains
a specification for a particular type of imposition.
You can use the Quite Imposing Plus software to
create the control files.
Error messages and warning messages are written to
standard error.
Quite Hot Imposing comes with a concise and well-written
three-page document that explains how to use the
command-line interface.
Adobe PDF Library is built in
The Adobe® PDF® Library™ is bound into the Quite Hot Imposing software.
This ensures that it creates PDF files that are 100% compliant with the Adobe Systems
PDF Reference.
Features
Here is a partial list of the features supported by
Quite Hot Imposing:
- create booklets (saddle-stitched books)
- do "n-up" layouts (arrange multiple copies of
one or more pages in columns and rows on one
sheet)
- lay out one or more pages on a background (the
background could contain your company logo, a
watermark, etc.)
- add margins, gutters, and crop marks
- enclose each page inside a printed rectangle
- trim unneeded white space or unneeded printed
material from any or all edges of specified pages
- add space at any or all edges of specified pages
- move the contents of specified pages left, right, up, or
down by a fixed or variable amount; also shift
for "creep" in a folded booklet
- rotate pages in 90-degree increments
- make pages larger or smaller by scaling them
- rearrange pages in any order, duplicating and/or rotating
specified pages, if desired
- process even and odd pages separately
- reverse the order of the pages in a document
- insert blank pages in a document
- flatten form fields.
- impose pages that have bleeds (with contents
reaching over the edge, for trimming)
- do step-and-repeat impositions
- add page numbers to pages or to imposed sheets
- add arbitrary text to imposed sheets, with
or without numbers (use this feature to add page numbers/Bates numbers)
- stick on electronic "masking tape"
to erase specified areas on pages (for example,
you can use this feature to suppress printing of
unwanted headers or footers)
- delete pages.
