ExpressConversion Server
|
|
ExpressConversion Server is server-based software
that automatically converts files from and to many different
formats, including PDF formats. ExpressConversion Server can stand
alone or can be integrated seamlessly with
existing workflow systems and with
enterprise-level document-management
applications.
|
If used in conjunction with
Relay, a browser-based
document-transformation & publishing tool,
ExpressConversion Server eliminates the need
to purchase, install, and maintain desktop
applications for converting documents to PDF format.
Hundreds of file formats are supported, including
Adobe Illustrator; Adobe Photoshop; ASCII text and ANSI text;
AutoCad (DWF, DXF, DWG); CGM; HPGL; HTML;
Microsoft Word (DOC, DOT, RTF, more); Microsoft Excel (XLS, XLT, more);
Microsoft Publisher (PUB); Text Mail (MIME);
XML/XSL; WordPerfect (WPD, WPS); Lotus (WK1, WK1, WK3, more);
WML;
many image formats (BMP, CUR, ICO, DIB, GIF, IMG, JPG/JPEG, more).
(This is only a partial list. Click the link before for
a complete list of supported file formats.)
It is also possible to extract document
metadata in XML
or CSV format.
|
Three rendering technologies
File rendering is performed using one of the following
three rendering technologies:
- Integrated File Type Support. This is used to
convert plain (ASCII and ANSI) text files, image files,
HPGL files, MSG files, and
PDF files to
PDF, PDF/A 1b, PDF/X, text, or ZIP format.
Metadata from input document is incorporated into PDF
output, and metadata can be extracted in XML format or
CSV format.
- Native Application Support. This uses the
native application
(the application that created the to-be-converted file)
to render
documents. To use this rendering technology,
the native application
(Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, WordPerfect, etc.)
must be installed on the same computer as ExpressConversion Server.
- Extended File Type Support.
(Requires Extended Output Module,
an add-on to ExpressConversion Server.)
Addition of the Extended Output Module allows
ExpressConversion
Server to convert more than 300 file formats into
PDF, PDF/A 1b, PDF/X, text, ZIP, DOC, RTF, HTML, JPEG,
PNG, TIFF, or XPS format.
This method ensures
the fastest rendering performance; it does not rely
on native applications.

Facilitates compliance with corporate and governmental regulations
Increasing corporate and governmental regulations have led to growing demand for use
of specific document formats when exchanging and archiving documents.
ExpressConversion Server has special features that facilitate compliance with
such regulations. For example, ExpressConversion Server can create documents in
PDF/A format, which is a format that's required by many corporate and
government regulators.
|
Features
ExpressConversion server offers the following features:
Unlimited conversions.
Flexible server-based licensing model allows for unlimited
document conversions on a single server. The only limits
are server performance and network performance.
Hot folders/watched folders.
Rapid deployment and simple integration with existing
document-management systems. Loose coupling between systems
increases the resilience of the overall workflow.
Command-line integration.
Program start, auto stop, etc.
E-mail integration.
Connect users and systems using your existing e-mail
infrastructure. Users simply e-mail a file as an e-mail
attachment to ExpressConversion Server — the PDF file
generated by ExpressConversion Server is returned to the sender.
Web-Services integration.
SOAP-compliant messaging, load balancing, job management,
and reporting.
Integrated scripting support.
Gain complete control over the document workflow with
integrated VB and JavaScript. Execute scripts at different
"event triggers" to add control logic and provide customized
operations to the document-transformation and document-delivery process.
Scheduling.
Days of the week, start/stop times.
Page/content scaling.
Scale page size or page content to ensure compliance
with enterprise requirements or regulatory requirements.
Fault monitoring and recovery.
Fault Monitoring and Recovery (FMR) Windows Service monitors server performance to maximize
up-time. Corrupted documents are handled gracefully so that
document workflows are not interrupted.
Comprehensive file-type support.
Supports over 300 input-file formats for conversion into PDF,
PDF/A 1b, PDF/X, text, ZIP, DOC, RTF, HTML, JPEG, PNG,
TIFF, or XPS format.
Metadata support.
Metadata from input document is incorporated
into PDF output format.
Metadata can be extracted from PDF file
in XML format or CSV format.
XML job ticket support.
Tailor each document conversion to meet the requirements of
your workflow by creating an XML job ticket
(an XML-based instruction file). The XML job ticket contains
processing instructions for ExpressConversion Server, including:
- source documents
- conversion settings
- document-delivery options
Job Ticket Templates (partial XML job tickets) contain
repeatable instructions referenced from main job tickets.
PDF downgrading.
Convert PDF files to the PDF 1.4 spec to comply with process
requirements or
regulatory requirements (e.g. FDA requires all PDFs to be
at the 1.4 spec).
Hyperlinks/bookmark support.
The PDF files that you create with ExpressConversion Server
can contain bookmarks and hyperlinks.
Unicode font support.
Support for Unicode fonts, including Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
Document Open options.
Control the opening-page appearance for PDF documents.
Options include Page Only, Page and Bookmarks, Page and Thumbnails.
All standard PDF views are supported, including Page Only,
Thumbnail, Bookmark, and Zoom settings.
PDF Info extraction.
Extract PDF Information from PDF documents into Text,
XML or CSV files. The PDF Info features can support data extraction as
well as document analysis. You can use the PDF Info feature
to power the logic for complex
document workflows. The following data types can be extracted:
- Text (including location, size and font)
- File Info (file size, date)
- Page Count
- Bookmarks
- Hyperlinks
- Form Fields
- Metadata
- XMP Metadata
- OCR ZoneData
Text output.
Extract text from images and output to *.TXT. Ideal for
full-text indexing applications, for content repurposing, or
for delivery to wireless devices such as a PDA.
Use ExpressRecognition software
to turn images into Text.
File compression.
Compress PDF files by up to 80% without document degradation.
Reduces cost of archiving.
Document security.
Systematically apply multiple levels of security to
documents, including restrictions on opening, printing,
copying, editing, etc.
PDF/A output.
All supported formats can be converted into PDFs that
are compliant with the PDF/A standard.
Validation of PDF documents is provided,
to ensure that the documents comply
with the PDF/A standard. Deviations from the standard
are stored in an XML log to facilitate analysis and reporting.
Supported file formats.
INPUT FORMATS
ExpressConversion Server itself accepts the following
file formats as input:
- plain (ASCII and ANSI) text
- image files
- HPGL
- MSG
- PDF
Use of the Extended Output Module allows ExpressConversion
Server to convert many additional input formats
(300 input formats in all).
|
|
OUTPUT FORMATS
ExpressConversion Server itself can output the following
file formats:
- PDF
- PDF/A 1b
- PDF/X
- TXT
- ZIP
Use of the Extended Output Module allows ExpressConversion
Server to output these additional file formats:
- DOC
- RTF
- HTML
- JPEG
- PNG
- TIFF
- XPS
It is also possible to generate PDF metadata
in XML format or CSV format — with or
without the Extended Output Module.
