APCrypt is command-line (i.e., server-based) document-assembly software
that makes it easy for a
programmer to write routines that
encrypt PDF files with 128-bit or 256-bit AES security.
APCrypt supports all the standard password-based mechanisms
available in Adobe Acrobat.
Powered by the Adobe PDF Library,
APCrypt allows you to control who can view, modify, and print PDF files
and who can copy text & images from within them. Using password protection
ensures that only authorized individuals can perform these tasks.
Optionally, you can use APCrypt to
encrypt PDF attachments and non-PDF attachments for secure
delivery within PDF "envelopes."

Command-line interface: simple yet powerful
The command-line interface is simple yet powerful. A command-line statement can be
invoked in many different environments, with many different programming languages,
including object-oriented languages such as Java, .NET, and Visual Basic.
Sample code is available — contact us to request sample code for the
programming language you're using.
Adobe Acrobat not required
APCrypt is a stand-alone application. You don't need to have Adobe Acrobat installed
to use APCrypt.
Support for multiple platforms
APCrypt is available for AIX, HP-UX, Linux, Mac OS X, Solaris, and Windows.
AS/400 is supported under IBM UNIX System Services for AIX.

- Apply 128-bit AES or 256-bit AES encryption to PDF documents
(256-bit AES encryption is the latest and most secure Adobe Acrobat
standard encryption mechanism).
- Utilize PDF files as secure envelopes: apply 256-bit AES security to
PDF and non-PDF file attachments while leaving the PDF itself unencrypted.
- Apply backward-compatible 40-bit or 128-bit RC4 encryption to support
older versions of Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader.
- Set a user password to control who can view, print, or modify a document
and who can copy text & graphics from within it.
- Set an owner password to control who can change security settings.
- Use an owner password to remove encryption settings from your documents
dynamically, enabling users to change previously encrypted files or apply
new encryption settings.
- Optionally retain current file modifications.
- Linearization: optimize PDF files for faster access and viewing when downloaded from
the Web or a network.
- Consistent with Title 1 of the United States Digital Millennium Copyright Act
(DMCA) of 1998. This means the APCrypt software will not permit
modification of encrypted documents unless the owner password is supplied.
- Set the output file version for ISO 32000 compliance (Adobe PDF version 1.7).
- Stand-alone operation (does not rely on Adobe Acrobat).
