IDRsolutions offers FREE PDF-extraction software
|
JANUARY 10, 2003 — IDRsolutions, Ltd. is
now offering a free version of its "Storypad"
PDF-extraction software. The free software, which is called "Storypad PERSONAL,"
lets you extract text and images
from PDF files and re-use the text and images
easily.
Extracting text and images
from PDF files presents a
huge headache and can be a very
messy process. That's because most
PDF files contain no inherent
structure,
so the data needs to be
reconstituted. IDR's "Storypad"
product line is a
very powerful and flexible solution
that allows data to be extracted
from PDF files
and repurposed.
When extracting information from
PDF files, Storypad attempts to
maintain the content flow or
allow the user to retain the
layout, thereby providing material
which is readily reusable. In other
words, Storypad helps you to retain
formatting information and
relationships among headings, subheadings,
etc.
Because recognizing associations among
the elements on a
page can be more of an art form
than a science, Storypad offers
several user-configurable algorithms
that can be used with manual merging to
extract content from even the most
idiosyncratic page.
The free "Storypad PERSONAL" software is
being offered by IDRsolutions as a
"technology preview," to demonstrate
what can be achieved with software from
IDRsolutions. However, the free
"Storypad PERSONAL" software will
meet the needs of many users as-is.
