Atlas and NexPress release PPML/VDX technology
in PrintShop Mail
|
DECEMBER 6, 2002 — Following Atlas Software's commitment
to support all major RIP technologies, the
company recently established a partnership
with NexPress Solutions LLC to
develop support for PPML/VDX
in PrintShop Mail.
PPML/VDX is a new variable-data-exchange standard,
defined by the Committee for Graphic Arts
Technologies Standards (CGATS).
It is based
on a subset of the PPML
specification.
PPML/VDX technology allows electronic-publishing
software to use PDF files as containers for
packaging the information needed
to produce variable-data-printing jobs.
Support for
PPML/VDX will be offered on the NexPress 2100
digital color production press from Heidelberg.
The PPML/VDX enabled version of PrintShop Mail
was demonstrated during Graph Expo in Chicago
in October 2002 and was commercially
released early in December, 2002.

that runs on a Macintosh computer or
a Windows computer and is powerful yet
extremely easy to use. It is also one of
the least expensive variable-data-printing

PrintShop Mail is designed to use PDF files
as boilerplate documents. Therefore, when
you use PrintShop Mail to create
variable-data documents, virtually
any word-processing application or page-layout
application can be utilized to create your
boilerplate documents.
This is a real time-saver if you
receive boilerplate documents from sources
outside your company — for example,
from customers — because you don't
have to re-create each boilerplate
document in-house (just convert the
boilerplate document from whatever format
it's in to PDF format).
